[ The thank you is so heartfelt and sincere that Gabriel honestly doesn't know what to do with it. He feels a swell of some grand emotion, but he doesn't have time to analyze it right now. He'll bask in the memory later- for now, he just brushes past it. ]
No one's with him right now, but I'm pretty sure the group he was traveling with- Stephen and his friends from home? They're heading towards him. I'm going to try to get him to stop at the aquarium, once he makes it.
He sounded just fine, for what it's worth. A little shaken up about waking up in a body bag, but who isn't?
Man, that's so good to hear! I hope they get to him soon.
[There's another wave of gratitude practically radiating off Flynn when he hears that Gabriel takes care of Peter, helping him to stay put until Stephen and the others can get to him.]
[ There's another thank you. There's a pause before he speaks again. ]
Not used to being thanked. But sure, it's no problem. We get so little good news around here, I figured I'd better spread it around.
So- next few times you talk to him, make sure he keeps on stuff he needs to do. He had stuff written on his hand like 'eat', so that focus thing is pretty bad.
[ Even though he's had plenty of time to get used to it, the warmth and sincerity from people outside his world still surprises him sometimes. And Flynn's never been anything but earnest. Now that he's less suspicious of everyone's motives (thank Al for that one), it makes him smile rather than look for the catch. ]
Well, it's definitely not great. But as long as he has people keeping an eye on him I think he'll be fine. And if there's one thing Peter clearly knows how to do, it's make friends. I think he'll come out of it fine. It's not like when House is vulnerable or anything.
[ As someone who keeps a not-so-close eye on House's well-being, he is definitely the harder one to look after. ]
You have a point there. I sure hope you're right and nothing bad happens to him... again.
[If the obituary is any indication, a lot of people seem to genuinely care for Peter. At the same time Flynn knows all too well how hot-headed and impulsive his friend can be. He remembers Bucky's anger at Peter's selfishness and making him talk and... as much as it pains Flynn to admit, it wouldn't exactly surprise him if his friend had managed to piss off more people in a similar manner.]
How have you been? I'm sorry, I'm horrible about keeping in touch these days... It's just been, it's been a lot lately.
[ Gabriel lets out an amused chuckle at Flynn's apology. ]
It's how this place is. No need to apologize for it. It hits us with a lot- in some cases, multiple times the months we've actually been here.
Besides, I forgot too- we made our pie. [ He sends over a picture resembling this. ] It actually worked out. And for once, no one died on the way and we weren't stopped by bad weather or the nanites messing up. It went almost exactly like I expected.
[ Can you tell he's happy about this? Because he is. ]
[ He chuckles at Flynn's proclamation that this is the 'day of good news.' Huh, maybe it is. ]
It was amazing. Even better than the boston creme donut I found on my first day here. I remembered my mother's recipe, so I'm betting it was even better for me. But no one had any complaints.
Al was hoping to make a bunch at one point, but we've only got the one pan. We'll definitely be making more once we've cleaned it, though. We cooked it in a stove with some coals at the bottom and got a pretty even bake, but I bet we could do just fine over an open fire, too. Cast iron skillets are good for a lot.
[ They make a good weapon too, but Gabriel's not bringing that up right now. Flynn's in too good a mood. ]
Aww man, I wish I could have been there, it sounds fantastic. I have a frying pan? Do you think it would work with a frying pan?
[Please tell him it would work with a frying pan!]
I wish I knew my mom's recipes. She made the best cakes. But I only ever ate them, I never paid attention, I wish I would have? I mean, I don't know if I ever found the ingredients in this place but at least I could try.
Hmmm. [ He's thinking it over- he'd like to make it work. ] That'd be way harder. Don't think a full pie would work, but you could probably do pockets or tarts? The thing with a frying pan is the heat isn't even. It'd go much better if you had a little pastry that you fill with some sort of fruit, and then cook it on both sides. If you ever want to try for it, I might be able to walk you through it, though.
And if you do want to try it, the grocery store is where you want to go. You know that place is pretty much full up? It's- if we could only distribute it across town, we'd all be better fed. Might even be able to do some misshapen cakes in the pizza oven down there.
[ He really hopes Tess revives. She seemed on top of this whole cooking/baking thing. ]
No kidding. Our brains are literally under-fueled right now. And the hallucinations don't help much, either.
But yeah, please let me know. I'd love to even look at more baked goods, honestly. I swear we'll find a recipe book one day and all of us will borrow it just to stare at the pictures.

Thank you, Gabriel. I owe you, really.

[The thanking and the spreading of good news both; they're probably equally scarce.
That second part worries Flynn, however. Peter needs a reminder to eat? What else does he need reminders for?]
I'll make sure to tell him. That really doesn't sound good... I'm glad help is on its way.

[He grins broadly, clasping his hands together.] That looks really good. How was it? I bet it was delicious.

Sometimes I think we'd have found all the solutions already if we weren't so underfed.

You know, I'd make that pie my new background image but I'm not that much of a masochist.
